Wenyi Li
Dr Wenyi Li is an NHMRC Investigator (Emerging Leadership Level 1) and Lecturer in Chemistry at the Department of Biochemistry and Chemistry, La Trobe University, Melbourne. He received his doctoral degree from The University of Melbourne under the supervision of Professors John D. Wade and Frances Separovic. After two postdoctoral training with Prof Christian Hackenberger at Leibniz-Forschungsinstitut für Molekulare Pharmakologie, Berlin, supported as a Leibniz-DAAD postdoctoral fellow, and with Professors Neil O'Brien-Simpson and Greg Qiao at the University of Melbourne, he relocated to La Trobe University to start his research group by focusing chemical biology and peptide chemistry for novel drug discovery. Dr Li currently leads an independent research group at the La Trobe Institute for Molecular Science, to develop novel peptide antibiotics to combat the critical problem of multi-drug resistant bacterial infections in our hospitals. His dedication to peptide antibiotic research and track record in his early career stage has published 47 papers (27 as lead author) in field-leading journals, with 6 of them featured as Journal Front Covers, highlighting their impact and significance.
